We have been surfing Craig's List off and on since we found our bug in a barn, looking for fenders and bumpers so we could become road-worthy. This past week I spotted some fenders off a 1969 beetle, which led me to some research. Being that ours is super beetle model, not every fender will fit (more room is needed for the front suspension, and later supers had different bumper mounts). For you bug fans out there, I came across this helpful chart:

So according to this chart, the rears off a '69 would work, which we picked up from John and Tyler in Kent. They had turned their bug into a baja-bug (dune buggy), seen behind them, and so no longer needed the 40 year old fenders. They also had a set of front and rear bumpers that would need some cleaning up, but would make us street legal.
When he apologized for the horse hair and bird droppings on the fenders (they had been stored ina barn for a while), I knew they were the perfect set for our bug in a barn (do you see Hulda's reflection in the pic below?)!
To prepare our bug to receive the donor fenders, I undercoated the fender well (sticky-black-gooey-spray-stuff) and tapped bolt holes we would be using.
Then for fun, we threw the engine cover on as well. The registration tag on the old license plate was from the last millennium. Hey! This thing is starting to look like something!
