Belly of the Beast

Now the the top of the floor pans have been treated and sealed, it was time to take a look underneath.  The driver's side looked in pretty good shape, but I was surprised to find that the passenger floor pan had never been undercoated... in fact it still had a retail label sticker on it that told me it was a product of Brazil (I'm told that with Mexico producing the bug for years after production ceased in Germany, Brazil became a big supplier of aftermarket parts).  It was in pretty good shape, so I'm guessing that it was replaced not too long before Hulda was put into the barn for her long winter's nap (eleven years!).

I decided that as long as I was getting ready to spary undercoating, I would also treat the exterior side of the patch panels that David earlier welded in around the wheel well area.  Here's a shot of the prep work:

After all that work on the top side, I didn't want the pan to rust from the bottom side.  Here I cleaned up the surface, metal prepped, spot primered, and then sprayed on the undercoat.  Also, an "after" pic of the wheel well, both the passenger rear and front.

While waiting for that to dry, I began working on the pedal assembly. Strip, clean, repaint, grease, add new parts, and reassemble at least three times because you have no idea how it should go back together!  David came across a pedal-rebuild kit he bought from Ovals 8-10 years ago and never got around to using, and dropped it off for Hulda.   Thanks David!
